The Federal Reserve cartoon and the biased media….

I’ve been watching the news from time to time lately, and discovered that the major news channels have usually no idea what they’re talking about.

I’ve already posted a couple of links to one of the most credible news programs on TV, but unfortunately it is also one of the least watched. For some reason people have a perception of it as an entertainment program. Don’t know why.

News are crucial for economy and smart decision making, false news can lead to devastating results.

So how can we know if what we hear on the news is actually the full, truthful and correct representation of facts? How do we know that we are not being fed half-truth and sometimes simply lies when we’re watching TV or reading the paper/net?

The answer is not simple, it is very hard to know when you’re being lied to or manipulated. But the best practice to protect yourself would be to take everything with a little grain of salt. Don’t believe everything you see on the news, it is staged, edited, and chosen to match the reporters point of view. If you hear something on Fox News (I personally don’t believe a word of what they’re saying) which you think is important – check again, this time on MSNBC. Still not sure? Try CNN. Look at the Comedy Central, check the web blogs, international channels (BBC, Sky News, Bombay Times, Ynet or Al Jazeera or whatever else).

Don’t get all your information from one source. Cross-check. Verify. Only that way you can protect yourself from being brainwashed by the biased media. And it is biased. Very.

A couple of examples to illustrate:

1. False representation of the Federal Reserve as a “printing money machine run by someone who has no idea”. Including the explanation why it is false. It’s very easy to believe that it’s true when you listen to it, but it is not. It is a blunt lie based on unrelated facts and pieces of information grouped together to manipulate an uneducated (in the field) listener.

2. See for yourself why I don’t believe a word Fox News are saying:
