Getting $50 for something you’re going to do anyway. Thanks, ING Direct!

So, last week I was upset at Wells Fargo for their fee changes.

This week I’m taking action.

ING Direct were kind enough to offer me $50 for opening a free checking account with them, on condition that I’ll use their debit card 3 times within the first 45 days. They have a pretty extensive ATM network (they use the Allpoint network, which has ATM’s located in airports, supermarkets, Costco stores, 7-eleven’s, etc), very good web site, and their checking account bears interest (not much, 0.25% APY right now for amounts below $50K, but that’s 0.2% more than my local Credit Union dividend rate). If I need paper checks – I can order 50 for $5 from ING, or from any 3rd party (like Walmart or Costco, that provide pretty competitive prices for checks). But I don’t really need checks, I’m still using the Washington Mutual checks I got from WaMu 5 years ago.

So right on time, ING Direct, and thanks for the $50.

Happy banking,

Your Little Advisor.

PS: By the way, if you want to get the $50 by opening a checking account with ING Direct – enter reference code EL755 on the sign-up page, its valid until the end of October!
