Emegency Alert System test – today on your TV

Nationwide FEMA EAS (Emergency Alert System) test will be performed today.

The test will be performed today, November 9th 2011, between 9 am and 2 pm EST, and during the test you may see that your local TV programming will be interrupted with the FEMA test message. The EAS system allows FEMA to interrupt the local TV broadcast with emergency alerts and announcements that FEMA needs to deliver to the public. The EAS system is tested routinely on a monthly basis by your local TV stations (usually at night), but today’s test is coordinated by FEMA and is performed end to end across the Nation.

So don’t be frightened if you see emergency alerts on your TV today – this is just a test.
