Promotions on Tax Preparation Software are ON!

The major tax preparation software manufacturers (Intuit and H&R Block) have started their promotions already. Usually, they only start the promotions towards the end of the tax season, after all the early submitters have paid the full price already. But this year, probably because of the fiscal cliff public debate, the promotions started early January.

You can find all the various versions of TurboTax and H&R Block at Home discounted in many places. Both H&R Block and TurboTax have on-line only options on their home sites.

Here are the current prices:

Turbo Tax

Other Options

If you’re interested in other (probably cheaper) options, consider these:

TaxAct  – sells both a desktop software and an on-line service.

TaxSlayer – Similarly to TaxAct and others, provides a software package and an on-line solution.

Complete Tax Online – This is an on-line only solution based on the CCH professional suite.

You can also file your Federal tax returns for free if they’re simple enough (1040EZ is free almost with any provider). States have similar promotions on their tax authority web pages (California FTB for example).

Bottom Line

I wrote reviews on tax preparation software before, if anyone is interested. You can find the TurboTax review here (part 1) and here (part 2). You can find H&R Block review here (part 1) and here (part 2).

Have fun with your tax season!

Wish I had seen this post earlier–never would have thought I could save $20 buying TurboTax Deluxe on Amazon rather than directly from Intuit (http://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/?view=desktop)!
